Another well-known file hosting platform has officially been shut down. This occurred following a police raid in France.
Uptobox was one of the most popular video hosting services globally and was shut down by ACE (Alliance for Creativity & Entertainment) alongside Uptostream.
The service started in 2011 and gained popularity among users who wanted to upload, store, and share files with others. Uptobox received over 34 million visitors in a single month, with around one-third from France.
Initially, there were reports of Uptobox malfunctioning, assumed to be a technical issue being resolved by the company.
However, as events unfolded, it became evident that a more significant operation was underway, involving police in two different locations.
The raid took place in France and Dubai, where the alleged service operators were located. Officials searched two data centers in Vitry-sur-Seine, likely hosting servers for the file-sharing platform.
These actions were in response to a court order mandated by ACE. Jan van Voorn, the Head of ACE, emphasized the importance of shutting down even sophisticated piracy operations with the network’s resources.
Celine Boyer, Head of Content Protection at Canal+, highlighted the significance of combating piracy to protect intellectual property and ensure the creative marketplace’s prosperity.
If you use Kodi, you might have encountered an Uptobox error message while trying to access Movies & TV Shows.
With this recent closure news, we may not encounter this issue following the shutdown.
