HBO Max has officially announced that it’s launching a new, ad-supported version. This popular streaming app will now have a more affordable option.

The launch of this alternative “tier” is planned for June, and the current subscription will still be available. The price for the ad-based version will be $9.99/month. That’s for the full HBO Max service, just with ads.

The current ad-free HBO Max subscription costs $14.99/month.

John Stankey, CEO of AT&T (HBO’s parent company), offered his perspective. He emphasized the company’s focus on customer growth this year. It’s not just about increasing their customer base. They aim to broaden growth within their three primary markets and boost their share in each one as well.

Our number one priority in 2021 is growing our customer relationships. It’s about more than just adding to our customer base. It’s about expanding the growth opportunity in our three market focus areas and also increase our share within each market

HBO Max With Ads Details

Although we don’t have every detail yet, here’s what’s been shared so far. It’s worth noting that the ad-supported HBO Max will lack some features found in the premium version.

For example, it won’t include the ability to stream Warner Brothers’ theatrical releases. You won’t be able to watch them on the same day they hit theaters with the ad-supported plan. One positive note is that there won’t be ads during HBO Max’s original content.
