Amazon just revealed two new streaming devices. These are the new 3rd Generation Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Stick Lite.
Cord-cutting enthusiasts have been anticipating a new Amazon Firestick model for months. It’s finally here.
These devices are priced at $29.99 and $39.99 respectively. They appear to be slimmed-down versions of the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.
Marc Whitten is the VP of Amazon Entertainment Devices & Services. In a press release, he said the following:
“The redesigned Fire TV experience is tailored to each user, making streaming your favorite shows even easier. This is achieved thanks to our more powerful, next-generation Fire TV Stick and the even more affordable Fire TV Stick Lite.”

Amazon also shared that these devices will include a new interface and design. It’s called the “All-New Fire TV Experience”.
This will be rolled out to other devices sometime in 2021.
Fire TV Stick Lite
The Fire TV Stick Lite is priced at $29.99. It will be available through Amazon starting September 30th.

A notable feature of the new Firestick Lite is the new “Live” button on the remote. This provides quick access to all live streaming choices available on your device.
However, this remote won’t offer TV controls. Those are found on the Firestick 4K Remote.
It’s also important to note that this device will NOT support 4K streaming. This might be a disappointment for some, considering it’s a 2020 release.

Purchase the all-new Fire TV Stick Lite
With a lower price tag but no major new features, it seems Amazon might be aiming to compete with the Roku Streaming Stick+.

For an extra $10, consider the all-new 3rd Generation Fire TV Stick.
3rd Generation Fire TV Stick
The brand-new 3rd Generation Fire TV Stick is priced at $39.99. It will be available for purchase through Amazon on September 30th.
Like the Fire TV Stick Lite and the Fire TV Stick 4K, this device also features 8 GB of storage.
However, the 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick doesn’t see many upgrades in terms of specs and features.
The main improvement with the new Fire TV Stick? You’ll find more volume and power controls added to the Firestick remote.

In general, it looks like this is a total failure for Amazon.
It’s a major letdown.
The price might be attractive to some. But most cord-cutters and streamers want better storage and an improved streaming experience overall.

Alternatives to the Firestick Lite
It’s exciting that Amazon is putting out new Firestick models. However, these new devices are disappointing compared to other, better streaming devices available today.
Here’s a quick rundown of some alternatives to the Firestick Lite.
Amazon Firestick 4K
The Firestick 4K has dominated the streaming device market ever since its launch in 2018. And it’s easy to see why.
With its price, 4K support, ease of jailbreaking, and overall specs, the Firestick 4K is hard to top.

MECOOL KM3
The MECOOL KM3 is a fairly new Android TV Box. A huge advantage is that it uses the actual Android TV 10 operating system.
The MECOOL KM3 offers a lot of the same things as the NVIDIA Shield, but without the high price tag.

Tivo Stream 4K
Another device that’s become pretty popular is the Tivo Stream 4K. It first hit the market in May.
This one’s a lot like the Firestick 4K when it comes to price, storage, and how easy it is to take with you. But it uses the Android TV operating system.
