Amazon recently shared that it’s adding over 200 free channels to the Live section on Fire TV devices. This is big news for cord-cutters.
This change applies to all devices with the New Fire TV Interface. This includes the Fire TV Stick Lite, the 3rd Gen Firestick, and older Fire TV devices. Those older devices are expected to receive the update in March 2021.
Amazon’s New Interface Making Its Way to Firesticks
Is cable television nearing obsolescence faster than we thought? With Amazon and other big players adding free content to their Streaming Devices, it certainly appears so.
In December 2020, Amazon introduced a free News App. This app let’s users stream local channels in major U.S. cities.
This latest announcement means even more free content is coming to Fire TV. The content will be integrated from sources like Pluto TV, IMDB TV, XUMO, Red Bull TV, Tubi, Twitch, and more. That’s a lot of entertainment options.
Note: These channels will only integrate if you have the corresponding apps installed on your device.
Reports suggest that Plex integration is also on the horizon. Plex added a Live TV section with over 80 free channels back in July 2020. This could be a game-changer.
If you have a paid IPTV service, you’re in luck. You can integrate content from services like Philo, YouTube TV, Sling TV, or Hulu+ Live TV as well.
Firestick and Fire TV users will now have access to over 400 live channels. These channels come from almost 20 providers and are available in the Fire TV channel guide. Over 200 of those channels are free and ad-supported. That’s a huge selection.
TROYPOINT TIP: While the addition of free channels is fantastic, the content options are somewhat limited and include ads. For the best and most reliable live TV streaming experience, we suggest an IPTV service.
Check out our IPTV Guide below. It includes a list of top-tier services and a wealth of information about live TV.
