Amazon has made an announcement. They are gradually rolling out a new interface to Firestick and Fire TV devices starting today.
It was known that Amazon was going to implement a new software update. This update was for a redesigned Fire TV interface. The only question was about the timing of it.
The announcement was made in conjunction with the release of the new Firestick Lite and 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick. These were released back in September 2020.
Amazon Announces New Firestick Lite & 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick
Amazon had previously hinted at the new Fire TV interface. In a September press release, they said:
“We are constantly exploring ways to improve and evolve the experience. We want to usher in the future of TV, and share that we are rolling out a significant experience update.”
This is a major update to Fire TV devices, so it will probably be rolled out gradually.
If you have a Firestick Lite or 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick, you’ll likely get this update before other users. This includes those using the Firestick 4K, Fire TVs, and older generation devices.
The update will initially only be available to a limited number of 2020 Firestick/Fire TV users. We can, however, anticipate a wider rollout in the coming days and weeks.
The most recent major change to the Fire TV interface happened in 2016. That’s the version that is currently in use.
For owners of a Firestick/Fire TV, there’s a way to find out about your device’s eligibility. You can check our guide below to see if it qualifies for the new software update.
How to Update Firestick/Fire TV
The Amazon Firestick is currently the most popular streaming device available. This is thanks to its affordability, user-friendly interface, and the ease with which it can be “jailbroken”.
New Firestick/Fire TV Interface Details & Information
Here you’ll find important details about the updated Firestick/Fire TV interface.
One of the first images released gives us a hint. It seems that Amazon is focusing on making content discovery better.
It’s quite reminiscent of the interface we’ve seen on the Chromecast with Google TV. This device came out in 2020.
Another notable feature is the addition of user profiles. This will allow for personalized recommendations. Up to six users in a single household can have their own profiles for customization.
The main menu categories have been updated as well. You’ll now find Library, Home, Find, and Live.
There’s a new app feature too. You’ll be able to scroll over supported apps to get a quick look at what’s inside. You can even start playback right from there.
