AT&T customers have received some unfortunate news. The company recently shared that streaming HBO Max will now count toward their data limits.
This change is a direct result of California’s new net neutrality law. The law prohibits companies from offering “sponsored data,” which includes arrangements like streaming platforms covering data usage for their users.
This includes AT&T’s incredibly popular Streaming App, HBO Max. Those who enjoyed unlimited streaming on HBO Max with AT&T plans will need to adjust to this change.
HBO Max Review & Installation Guide
In the past, users could stream as much content as they wanted on HBO Max. They didn’t need to worry about exceeding data caps on their AT&T accounts.
However, California’s new law has changed the landscape. As a result, all HBO Max users with AT&T plans will have data usage counted.
AT&T has expressed its disappointment with the new law. They shared their perspective with customers through a blog post on their Official Website.
We’re disappointed about the impact California’s new “net neutrality” law has on our customers. This law limits our ability to offer free data services in California. Regrettably, it also has implications for customers in other states, as the internet isn’t bound by state lines.
The option to stream HBO Max without data charges was a major draw for many AT&T customers.
Those who support net neutrality, however, consider this a positive change for all consumers.
They believe this new law empowers viewers to choose their preferred streaming services freely. They argue it prevents companies from influencing customers’ viewing choices.
This means consumers can select from a variety of streaming applications and APK’s without feeling obligated to use a specific service.
