pirate sites blocked in australia

Big news for Australian streamers! 123Movies and a bunch of other popular pirate sites are getting the boot. This comes after some major Hollywood studios decided to put their foot down and get a blocking order in place.

If you remember, just last week the US Government dropped their own hit list of pirate sites from 2021. Now it’s Australia’s turn to make headlines for taking action. .

We’ve got the rundown of all the pirate sites that are now off-limits in Australia. Take a look and tell us – anything on there that catches your eye? Is it what you expected?

According to a report over at TorrentFreak, a team of heavy hitters including Netflix, Village Roadshow, and other Hollywood bigwigs managed to snag a blocking order in Australia’s Federal Court.

The Federal Court of Australia didn’t mess around. They came up with a blocking order that’s got over 50 domains named and shamed in their official document.

The Australian Federal Court then created a blocking order with over 50 domains listed in their document.

This order is mainly targeted at the big internet providers in Australia. We’re talking the likes of Optus, Vocus, Telstra, TPG, and the rest of the crew.

These providers have been given a 15-day deadline to shut off access to the blacklisted websites for their users.

Here’s the official word straight from the Court:

“Each Respondent must, within 15 business days of service of these Orders, take resonable steps to disable access to the Target Online Locations.”

They even spelled out what they mean by “reasonable steps.” Think DNS blocking, blocking IP addresses and URLs, or any other tech tricks they can use to lock down those sites.

The list of banned sites is basically a mixed bag. There’s a bunch of streaming sites that haven’t been verified, some portal sites, and a handful of torrent sites thrown in for good measure.
