This past week Paramount, the parent organization of CMT, canceled Jason Aldean’s hit, “Try That In A Small Town”.
After removing the song/video, it surged to #1 on the iTunes chart and now holds the #2 position.
Country Music Television (CMT) announced that they will no longer broadcast the “Try That In a Small Town” music video by Jason Aldean. This decision came after some critics expressed concerns that the lyrics portrayed gun violence and racist notions.

Try That In A Small Town Lyrics
Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalkCarjack an old lady at a red lightPull a gun on the owner of a liquor storeYa think it’s cool, well, act a fool if ya likeCuss out a cop, spit in his faceStomp on the flag and light it upYeah, ya think you’re tough, well, try that in a small town. See how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own. You cross that line, it won’t take long for you to find out, I recommend you don’t. Try that in a small town.
Got a gun that my granddad gave me. They say one day they’re gonna round up. Well, that may fly in the city, good luck.Try that in a small town. See how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own. You cross that line, it won’t take long for you to find out, I recommend you don’t. Try that in a small town. Full of good ol’ boys, raised up right. If you’re looking for a fight, Try that in a small town. Try that in a small town. Try that in a small town. See how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own. You cross that line, it won’t take long for you to find out, I recommend you don’t. Try that in a small town. Try that in a small town. Ooh-ooh. Try that in a small town
Will Paramount Become the Next Bud Light?
Paramount boasts a large subscriber base thanks to popular TV shows like Yellowstone, Bar Rescue, Ink Master, and Younger. However, the question remains – will this popularity sustain?
Anheuser-Busch InBev, the maker of Bud Light, suffered a significant loss of $27 billion in market value following its partnership with Dylan Mulvaney.
My Common Sense Thoughts
If you’ve been following me, you know I avoid delving into political matters.
However, I view this as a matter of common sense, not politics.
There’s no harm in these lyrics, and they do not carry any racial implications. Aldean simply emphasizes that such actions wouldn’t occur in a small town where residents look out for each other.
- Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk
- Carjack an old lady at a red light
- Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store
- Stomp on the flag and light it up
Some individuals in our society sympathize with these criminals, but I’m sure they’d change their tune if they were in need of help provided by small-town folks.
Critics mention an event from 1927 where an 18-year-old was lynched at a courthouse location featured in the video. However, this same location has been used in various productions such as, “Hannah Montana: The Movie.” The selective outrage seems apparent.
Where are these critics when it comes to rap songs promoting violence against law enforcement?
Our society is becoming a mockery due to this culture of cancellation.
We need to stop politicizing everything and apply rational thinking. Nowadays, all issues seem to be tainted by politics, and blind conformity is prevalent regardless of personal beliefs. This applies to both political parties. It’s acceptable to disagree with your party. People should begin thinking independently.
Congratulations to Jason Aldean on an excellent song!
