It seems likely that Android TV devices are going to get a bit of a refresh sometime soon.
Google recently shared that the Google TV OS is going to start to replace the Android OS. This will happen on all third-party Android TV Boxes.
This will include devices that are really popular. For example the NVIDIA SHIELD and NVIDIA SHIELD TV are included.
Actually, NVIDIA devices just received a brand-new interface update. It has a ton of things that are similar to Google TV.
One similarity is an all-new “Discover” tab, which has featured content that’s specific to each user.
App shortcuts and categories are going away. As a result, users are going to notice that things are less congested and cluttered.
The interface is going to become a lot more similar to Google TV devices thanks to these changes. One example of a Google TV device is the Chromecast with Google TV.
It’s highly likely that buyers of Android TV will see similar changes on other Android Boxes in the future.
Amazon recently did an update to their interface too.. This update applied to Firestick and Fire TV devices. Interestingly, a lot of folks aren’t thrilled about it.
If you’d rather have a different interface than the one that’s on your device, that’s easy to fix. You can just install a Launcher. Then you can easily upgrade the interface:

Shalina Govil-Pai is the VP of Android TV & Google TV. Here’s what she had to say in reference to these upgrades:
The experience that we’re building with Google TV is much more cohesive with Google overall. We decided to go with the Google TV name because it’s more in line with the overall Google mission. That includes offering personalized recommendations, search and discovery, and having all of the world’s content at your disposal.
Govil-Pai also pointed out that TCL is starting to sell televisions that have Google TV software. She expects them to come out at some point later on this summer. This is similar to what Roku did.
The company has also worked with Walmart to make the all-new Onn TV Stick. This was in the streaming device department.

People who use Android TV can anticipate that Google TV will be built into new devices. This includes Xiaomi and MECOOL boxes.
Govil-Pai explained that eventually, the goal is to have all devices using Google TV OS. There’s no set date for when these changes will occur though.
