An official report from ACE gives us the details. The anti-piracy organization has shut down HDFilme and xCine. Apparently, both were run from Vietnam.

HDFilme had been around since 2019. It operated under various domain names. The site attracted over 16 million visitors monthly.

If you try to visit the streaming sites’ original domains, you’ll see something different now. A screen from ACE will appear.

As noted, both websites were supposedly operated out of Vietnam. Vietnam has become a major focus for ACE.

Here’s what Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President, had to say about the situation:

“We’re focusing on Vietnam. It’s a big part of our plan to reduce piracy. We want to make a difference in the Asia Pacific region and across the global creative ecosystem. ACE will keep going after those running Vietnam-based piracy services. They put consumers at risk of nasty malware, they hurt investment in the country, they lower tax contributions, and they stifle creativity.”

Copyright authorities have done this before. They’ve shared lists of piracy sites and services they’re watching.

Will HDFilme or xCine Users Get Contacted?

It’s not clear what’s happening with this situation. We don’t know all the details about the targeting of HDFilme and xCine.

We have seen operators of pirate websites do certain things in the past. When investigated by authorities, they’ve handed over user info. This includes things like streaming history and IP addresses. They’ve also been known to sell this information to others.

It’s super important to stream carefully. Only stream content that’s not protected by copyright. And be sure to protect yourself with the best VPN available.
