LocalBTV is a relatively new free streaming application. It’s designed for watching local channels such as news, weather, and even some movies. You’ll find it’s a great way to stay informed and entertained.
This app is quickly gaining popularity as an alternative to Locast. This is especially true after the service was suspended just a few months ago. Users are finding it to be a reliable replacement.
LocalBTV provided a helpful explanation of its service on its website:
“LocalBTV collaborates directly with station owners and networks. We obtain permission to stream their channels legally and ethically. If you don’t see your favorite channel right away, don’t worry! We’re actively working on expanding our offerings.”
We extend our gratitude to a dedicated patron from our TROYPOINT Insider Forum. They were the first to bring this fantastic new application to our attention. We always appreciate the contributions of our community.
This is a truly valuable free application. It’s perfect for those who simply want to stream basic weather, news, and other local programming. All without the expense and commitment of cable.
Many cord-cutters encounter challenges when trying to access local news stations. They may be missing from their IPTV providers or require an OTA antenna. This app offers a convenient solution to this common problem.
LocalBTV is currently accessible in 14 US markets, offering a total of 30-40 local channels. However, they are continuously working to broaden their reach and expand their channel lineup, as stated on their website. So you can expect even more options in the future.
These 14 US markets currently served by LocalBTV include the following. Keep in mind that they are actively expanding their coverage:

Important Note: If you find yourself outside of these designated regions, there’s still an option. You can connect to a VPN to modify your geo-location. This can potentially grant you access to local programming from a supported area. However, during our extensive testing, we discovered that this method may not be universally successful for every channel. So your results may vary.
For the purpose of illustrating this tutorial, we opted to change our geo-location to Chicago. This is one of the regions currently supported by LocalBTV. It allows us to demonstrate the app’s features effectively.
LocalBTV is readily available on a variety of platforms. You can find it in the Amazon App Store, Google Play Store, Roku Channel Store and many more. This makes it easy to access no matter what device you’re using.
