It’s the process of removing restrictions imposed by the manufacturer to access “unauthorized software”.
When we do this, we can download 3rd party applications not available within the Amazon App Store.
This is a safe process and only involves changing a few security settings on the Firestick as we explained in the video guide above.
This is possible on Fire TV devices since they run on the Android operating system. Android is an open source operating system which means it’s easy to edit/customize unlike Roku or Apple TV.
Even though the term “jailbreak firestick” sounds like you are modifying the hardware, this is not the case whatsoever. We are only changing a couple of settings to unlock restrictions that these devices come preset with.

1. To begin, from your Firestick’s home screen, hover over the Gear icon located in the far right corner.
2. Next, select My Fire TV.
3. If you can’t find Developer Options, click on About.
4. Locate Fire TV Stick or your model, and press the select button on your remote 7 times.
5. A message “No need, you are already a developer” will appear at the bottom of your screen.
6. Go back to My Fire TV and you will now see Developer Options. Select this.

8. Locate Downloader and switch on Unknown Sources.
9. For older Firestick models, there is a single toggle for all apps. Turn this on as shown below.

1. Initially, hover over the settings icon and select Preferences
Choose Privacy Settings.
You will notice that all of these privacy settings are turned ON.
We suggest turning OFF all of these privacy settings.
Click the back button on your remote and select Data Usage Monitoring.
Turn Data Monitoring OFF.
Next, click the back button and select Featured Content.
Turn OFF both of these options. This will help speed up your system and get rid of annoying video ads.
