The company announced that Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming service, IMDb TV, will be renamed Freevee. The announcement was made in a press release.
IMDb TV is a popular streaming service. It’s available for free on a variety of media players and devices.
One example is the Amazon Firestick. IMDb TV is pre-installed on this device when you buy it.

Amazon’s press release stated that the name change will take effect on April 27th of this year. It also mentioned a few changes that come with the new branding.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, had this to say about IMDb TV.
We have seen tremendous growth for our AVOD service over the past two years. We are dedicated to providing our viewers with premium, free content. We are eager to continue growing our selection of creative and engaging original shows. We’re also excited to make Freevee the best AVOD service out there, with content that audiences will love.
In 2022, the company plans to increase its original programming content by 70%. One of the new shows will be a spinoff of the hit show Bosch.
Amazon will also release additional original films to further grow its ad-supported streaming app.
Amazon’s official press release highlighted some of Freevee’s best features. Here are some of them:
- The large library contains a wide array of genres. These include comedy, family, romance, thrillers, and others.
- It is available for free. No subscriptions are required.
- It has half the commercials of traditional TV.
- You can watch it right away on any device you like, such as Firestick and Roku.
