Italian Police Shut Down Major IPTV Network – “Operation Blackout”

The Italian Police have shut down a substantial IPTV Network. This network reportedly encompassed a wide array of IPTV services throughout the country.

The initiative, known as “Operation Blackout,” was a large-scale endeavor. It involved over 200 specialists from 11 different departments, all collaborating to dismantle the operation.

According to police reports, individuals were acquiring streams. These streams came from legitimate sources, but were then re-transmitted to resellers. The resellers would then broadcast the streams to a wider audience.

Then, IPTV providers would offer these streams at a significantly reduced cost to consumers. It’s estimated that these services generated approximately 15 million euros monthly from the illegal streams.

The operation led investigators to a central hub. This location, referred to as a “power station,” housed the servers used for distributing the content.

Reports suggest that the operation had a major impact on IPTV access in Italy. It is believed that roughly 80% of IPTV operations within the country were shut down as a result.

This is not an isolated incident; Italian police have taken action against IPTV providers before. In 2019, they targeted a major IPTV management system known as Xtream Codes. This action resulted in over 700,000 users losing platform access.

There have been other noteworthy IPTV shutdowns recently as well.

While 45 individuals are currently under investigation, no arrests have been made. The investigation is related to Operation Blackout.

Although there is no indication that subscribers are being targeted, the police haven’t dismissed that possibility.

Last year, Italian police took action against some IPTV subscribers. They reported 223 individuals who were using these services to the judicial authorities.

They have also issued a warning. They’ve stated that over 50,000 IPTV users could face potential criminal charges, pending identification.
