We believed Kodi 18.8 was the 18 build’s final release, but some critical bug fixes necessitated this unscheduled update. You’ll find more details about this in the quote below.
Important Note: TROYPOINT hasn’t extensively tested Kodi 18.9 with add-ons or builds, so some might not function correctly with this release.
Kodi 18.9 Fixes and Updates
Kodi 18.9 focuses solely on bug fixes and introduces no new features.
Is it necessary to update? Many users may not observe significant improvements. However, it’s definitely worth updating if you encounter issues like the metadata problem, as it resolves that specific issue effectively.
The quote below is taken from the official Kodi Website.
We’re rolling the “Leia” dice one last time, primarily due to external factors. Cloudflare’s technical adjustments caused widespread problems with HTTP access to sites utilizing their services, like metadata sources. We need a temporary solution before users get frustrated. Although 19.x “Matrix” is nearing completion, it’s not ready yet, and we can’t ignore these issues.
So, as we work on the new code, we figured we might as well tackle a few other regressions simultaneously.
If Kodi is working smoothly for you with your current version, we suggest against updating.
You’ll find the Kodi 18.9 changelog below, sourced directly from the official Kodi Website.
- Implemented a workaround for third-party changes related to HTTP2 and SSL/encryption. These changes previously affected internet access from Kodi by scrapers, streaming addons, and other services.
- Fixed memory leaks in TexturePacker.
- Addressed an issue where the event server couldn’t send raw keystrokes.
- Resolved issues concerning directory navigation and incorrectly configured start directories.
- Fixed MediaCodec OES/EGL rendering.
