There’s news about another IPTV arrest… This time, the LaLiga Spanish football league played a key role. Their assistance to authorities resulted in two arrests.

The popular LaLiga Spanish football league has helped authorities arrest two pirate IPTV operators.

A report from TorrentFreak indicates that LaLiga began investigating IPTV piracy in 2017. Now, in 2022, they are stepping up their efforts.

Some might remember the arrest of Mobdro’s developers. LaLiga played a significant role in taking down this formerly popular streaming app.

In this particular case, LaLiga has been investigating two suspects. These individuals were subsequently apprehended by Spain’s National Police on Monday, April 4th.

Although the service’s name wasn’t disclosed, two people were arrested. They are suspected of illegally selling access to premium audiovisual content. This content was distributed online and via satellite.

The Spanish National Police released an official statement. It detailed the following about the arrested individuals:

“They face charges related to intellectual property crimes. They’ve also been charged with offenses against conditional television broadcasting services and electric power fraud. These suspects possessed a high level of technical expertise and employed a complex infrastructure to provide services to their clientele, facilitating their illegal activities.”

The police statement also included an estimate of the illicit earnings. It suggests that the pirate IPTV suspects generated over €87,500 (US$95,400) in gross revenue.

“The estimated financial harm inflicted upon the copyright holders of the disseminated multimedia content surpasses €87,500.”

LaLiga Steps Up Anti-Piracy Measures

We’ll be able to block more domains that host pirated works from our partners, all thanks to the insights from LaLiga Content Protection. This will undoubtedly contribute to the long-term sustainability of authors’ and editors’ work.”
