Word on the street is that the MPA just added over 15 streaming sites to the UK blocklist. That’s a lot of sites to suddenly be unavailable.
If you’re not familiar, the Motion Pictures Association (MPA) is a group representing Netflix, Disney, and other big Hollywood studios. Their main gig is protecting copyrighted material.
Lately, we’ve observed the MPA and other authorities cracking down on popular streaming websites. They’ve really been ramping up their efforts.

Just recently, the MPA got a new blocking order in the UK. It specifically targets streaming websites that haven’t been verified. They are making internet providers block access to these sites.
Some of the websites on this new blocklist include big names like MoviesJoy, Soap2Day, and CouchTuner. The full list can be found below.
These streaming websites get millions of visitors every month. This makes them prime targets for the MPA. They definitely don’t want to lose out on potential revenue.
What’s surprising is that a lot of these website visitors aren’t even from the UK. A good chunk of them are actually from the US.

Sure, the MPA and its members want to block these sites to protect their profits. It’s understandable from a business perspective. However, the authorities are also saying these sites are unsafe for the public. They could be spreading viruses, malware, or even leading to identity theft. Which, to be fair, is a valid concern.

This is a win for the MPA and copyright holders, for sure. But it feels like this is just another round in a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. As soon as one site goes down, another one pops up.
Will Users of These Streaming Sites be Contacted by MPA?
Right now, it’s unclear what’s going on behind the scenes with this latest MPA crackdown. They’re being pretty tight-lipped about it.
In the past, some website operators have actually handed over user data. We’re talking streaming history and IP addresses, the whole shebang. There have even been cases where they’ve sold this info to other companies. It’s a valuable commodity, unfortunately.
