The Chairman & CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA) has been honored. He received an award for his role in shutting down the well-known Mobdro app.
Charles Rivkin accepted the Distinguished Cross of the Police Merit, according to a report by TorrentFreak. It was given to him by the Spanish Police for his contributions to taking down Mobdro. The app was once a very popular way to watch live television.
This award is considered the highest honor a civilian can get from the Police Force.
Here’s what Rivkin said about the work of the Spanish Police and his MPA team:
We deeply appreciate the General Director’s leadership and the Spanish National Police’s dedication. We’re thankful for their partnership in the effort to reduce piracy. We’ve built an amazing team to address this critical problem. Piracy remains a threat to the global film and television industry. It impacts local and international movies and companies. Piracy also risks jobs, hurts investments, and limits creativity.
The MPA and the Spanish Police had a major success in shutting down the popular Mobdro app.
The MPA and authorities first started looking into Mobdro back in 2018. This ultimatelyresulted in the Mobdro developer’s arrest in March 2021.
This application offered a vast selection of live channels worldwide. It reportedly attracted over 100 million users.
