The live TV service Nitro IPTV was once a popular choice among streamers. However, it is now facing a lawsuit from DISH Network. The lawsuit alleges violations of the Federal Communications Act and other breaches.
This isn’t the first time Nitro IPTV has found itself in legal trouble. In 2020, it faced a lawsuit from the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).
ACE’s lawsuit sought millions in damages for copyright infringement. ACE alleged that Nitro IPTV had promoted subscriptions that included a huge selection of live and curated TV channels.
The lawsuit from ACE highlighted Nitro IPTV’s video on demand (VOD) packages. It also drew attention to the service’s offering of 24/7 channels.
However, the more recent lawsuit filed by DISH Network presents a different set of accusations. DISH claims that Nitro IPTV pirated its satellite programming. It then distributed this programming to customers at a significantly lower price.
DISH’s complaint includes the following statement:
“Nitro TV advertised itself as a subscription-based streaming service. They offered 7500 high-definition channels, along with movies and television series on demand. Additionally, they provided pay-per-view events and sports programming, all for a low monthly fee. Nitro TV’s advertising specifically targeted customers who were considering switching from cable or satellite services like DISH.”
Essentially, Nitro IPTV is accused of selling illegal subscription packages. They allegedly did this both directly and through a network of resellers.
Statements found on the nitroiptv.com website claimed impressive numbers. They indicated they had “over 45,000 customers activated in the last 12 months.”
Interestingly, there are several apps using variations of the “Nitro IPTV” name available in the Google Play Store.
The outcome of the Nitro IPTV lawsuit is uncertain. It remains to be seen whether further legal action will follow. The case will definitely be one to watch.
