NVIDIA SHIELD TV Stick to be Released Soon

NVIDIA SHIELD Stick

Newegg made a bit of a blunder on Thursday. They accidentally leaked the new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick.

The listing was swiftly removed once they caught the error.

This followed a similar incident with Amazon on the same day, where the new NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro was inadvertently revealed.  That listing, too, vanished in a hurry.

Earlier this year, some FCC filings hinted that NVIDIA was prepping some new devices. It seems these devices are slated to hit the shelves on October 28th.

Judging by the listing, this new gadget will be dubbed the “Shield TV”.  However, given its form factor, users will likely refer to it as the NVIDIA SHIELD Stick.

The Newegg Website didn’t offer a wealth of information. We didn’t learn as much about this product as we did about the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro.

Nonetheless, we do have some basic details and a few images to paint a decent picture of what’s on the horizon.

Take a look at NVIDIA’s description of this new device just below.

All-New Design

The new SHIELD TV is designed with a compact and stealthy form. Its purpose is to seamlessly blend into your entertainment center, tucked away along with your cables. Boasting Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band AC Wi-Fi, a built-in power supply, and a microSD card slot for storage expansion, it’s a powerhouse packed with features, engineered for behind-the-scenes brilliance. The all-new remote is the most advanced yet, featuring motion-activated, backlit buttons, including a customizable button.  Equipped with voice control, Bluetooth, IR control for your TV, and a built-in lost remote locator, it truly elevates your control experience.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV Stick Form Factor

The new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick measures 6.5 inches in length, weighs 8.3 ounces, and features ventilation on both ends.

This unique circular design incorporates ports on each end.  You’ll discover an Ethernet jack and power input on one side.

The other side houses an HDMI port and a Micro USB slot.

The NVIDIA SHIELD Stick shares the same processor as its new counterpart, the NVIDIA Tegra X1+ processor.  According to NVIDIA, this processor will deliver a 25% performance boost compared to the current NVIDIA SHIELD available in the market.

The new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick will ship with 8GB of internal storage.  However, it seems we can expand this capacity via the Micro USB slot using external storage.

Similar to the Pro version, we get the same remote, which boasts motion-activated backlit buttons and dedicated keys for volume, power, and Netflix.  It also includes a “lost remote locator” button for easy retrieval.  The NVIDIA SHIELD Stick remote is powered by standard batteries, a departure from the small coin battery found in previous models.

My initial reaction was one of excitement. I was hoping for a worthy competitor to the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.  But, my enthusiasm waned when I saw the anticipated price tag of $150!

Sure, it’ll be more powerful than the Fire TV Stick 4K. However, I’m not convinced people will be willing to shell out an extra $100 for it.
