Upon initial inspection, the 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage may not seem like major selling points, but the device’s performance will determine their impact.
Setup Process
The setup process was straightforward, thanks to onn.’s efforts to simplify it. Setting up this streaming box is possible through the Google Home app on your phone/tablet or manually on the TV.

After booting up and logging in, I received an update prompt, which is promising. Despite being new, the onn. Android TV Box already has a system update available, a positive sign as many manufacturers neglect future updates.
The onn. Bluetooth Remote can pair with various devices like televisions, soundbars, or AV receivers. Connecting it to my television was smooth, enabling me to control volume and power effortlessly. Pairing the remote with my TV presented no issues.
In the final stages of setup, I was asked about my streaming service preferences. The streaming box uses this input to tailor the media displayed on the Google TV interface accordingly. I selected Amazon Prime, my only subscription. YouTube was pre-selected and couldn’t be deselected.
New Google TV Interface
Upon booting the new onn. Google TV Android Box, the Google TV user interface was immediately visible. This interface differs from the previous model, which was solely based on Android TV. Google TV essentially functions as an interface layered on top of the Android TV operating system.
This unique feature is highlighted by onn. for this new device. Opinions on this feature vary, with some loving it and others disliking the abundance of ads and promotion of various streaming services. There may be an option to install a third-party launcher to address these concerns, to be discussed further in the review.
Apps Automatically Installed
Upon checking, I noticed that there was limited remaining storage with only 3GB available. I viewed the list of pre-installed applications which included:

You might wonder why these apps come pre-installed and how a streaming box can be sold for only $19. The strategy is similar to what gaming companies do, selling consoles at a loss to later profit from game sales. Walmart and onn. likely benefit from affiliate kickbacks for pre-installed services.
I uninstalled unwanted apps, freeing up nearly 1GB, except for essential system apps like YouTube, YouTube Music, and Netflix that cannot be removed.

Google Assistant
Voice Assistant comes enabled on the new onn. Google TV 4K Streaming Box and it works wonderfully.
I tested the built-in microphone for many scenarios and had no issues at all.
The great thing about Google Assistant is its compatibility with all your applications, including sideloaded ones, unlike the Amazon Firestick which restricts the use of their voice assistant on third-party applications.
Chromecast Built-In
Chromecast is integrated into the onn. Google TV Android Box, allowing you to cast media from an external device to the streaming box. This feature is popular for casting home videos or photos stored on phones.
Netflix Certified
