TorrentFreak recently reported that BREIN, the anti-piracy group, has been actively targeting numerous pirate IPTV services and related tools. This crackdown has been ongoing for the past few years.
BREIN, an anti-piracy organization located in the Netherlands, is dedicated to safeguarding creative works. Their motto is “the art of protecting the creative.”
It seems that BREIN’s most recent target is a pirate IPTV provider. This provider operates under the name “GoFastIPTV.”
The pursuit of GoFastIPTV’s operators has reportedly spanned the globe. It has involved companies in Brazil and the UK. Ultimately, the chase culminated at a hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
BREIN’s pursuit of the GoFastIPTV operators was aided by a crucial piece of evidence. They discovered that the operators were using the Dutch Rabobank to handle payments.
BREIN initiated legal action, compelling Rabobank to cooperate. The bank was forced to disclose payment data. This information proved to be instrumental in BREIN’s investigation.
Through diligent investigation, BREIN was able to trace the operators of GoFastIPTV. They were surprised to discover that the operators were based in South America.
Following a series of communications and legal proceedings initiated by BREIN, a settlement was finally reached with the former operator of GoFastIPTV. The settlement amount is reported to be €70,000.
The settlement agreement includes additional stipulations. There’s a daily fine of €25,000 if GoFastIPTV’s service is ever reinstated. Additionally, there’s a €10,000 fine for each future instance of infringement.
Currently, if you attempt to visit the original GoFastIPTV website, you will be met with a “site can’t be reached” error message.
When compared to previous shutdowns of similar IPTV services, the total settlement amount appears to be relatively small.
In a significant piracy lawsuit, Nitro IPTV Operators were ordered to pay over $100 million.
Universe IPTV was ordered to pay over $7 million in copyright damages.
According to the official press release issued by BREIN, one of their representatives made a statement regarding the GoFastIPTV situation.
He emphasized that the investigation faced unnecessary delays due to the bank’s reluctance to voluntarily provide the required data. As a result, BREIN had to resort to legal action, and the court ultimately deemed the bank’s refusal to cooperate unlawful. With this favorable judgment, obtaining name and address details will now be a more streamlined process. This will occur following a reasoned request from BREIN, supported by the court’s decision.
