The well-liked ad-free YouTube app known as ReVanced has been slapped with a couple of DMCA takedown notices. These have come from separate organizations.
TorrentFreak was the first to report on this.
The complaints stated that the software used by the app was infringing on the rights of other apps.
ReVanced, as many are aware, is a revamped version of the incredibly popular YouTube Vanced app.
This application was shut down early in 2022.

The YouTube Vanced application faced a lot of heat from Google. Google representatives put pressure on them to cease and desist.
Vanced ultimately adhered to the demands in the letter. They removed the download links for the application.
ReVanced then picked up where the project left off. They developed a similar way to watch ad-free YouTube on Android devices like phones and tablets.
Up until now, there had been no legal issues. The app continued offering a good substitute for the official YouTube app.
But just last week, two different DMCA takedown notices showed up targeting ReVanced. These notices cited functionality problems.
The Android application AnyTracker filed the first DMCA. AnyTracker is an all-in-one tracking application for websites used to follow prices, stocks, and other data.
The DMCA claim highlighted an issue with the ReVanced app’s patch repository.
According to the claim, the infringer is Revanced, and in particular, this repository: https://github.com/revanced/revanced-patches. They say this repo allows users to get around the premium features of their app. Essentially, making it premium for free when it was initially intended to be an in-app purchase.
The official DMCA claim can be found here: https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2022/12/2022-12-06-anytracker.md
Another notice was submitted by the German weather app Pflotsh. This app can be found in the Google Play Store.
This complaint pointed to a similar reason for the alleged infringement. They stated in their takedown notice:
There is a patch at GitHub onĀ https://github.com/revanced/revanced-patches. This patch unlocks the subscription to “Pflotsh ECMWF” and other products, allowing users access without paying.
You can view the official complaint here: https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2022/12/2022-12-07-pflotsh.md
Interestingly, both DMCA notices targeted patches within the ReVanced repository. They were not directed at the application itself.
It would appear that ReVanced, unlike the previous Vanced app, is not in Google’s line of fire. At least, not yet.
It will be fascinating to observe how this situation develops.
