Sky Italia has taken a decisive step to remove the immensely popular VancedFlixed APK from its official GitHub page. This action follows claims of copyright infringement via an official takedown notice.
To address this infringement issue, Sky Italia, represented by anti-piracy outfit Kopjra, made a formal request to GitHub. GitHub, in compliance with the request, has disabled access to several related APK files, rendering the app unavailable for installation.
Upon visiting the official GitHub page for VancedFlix, a message states its removal due to a DMCA takedown.
This is not the first instance of Sky targeting 3rd party applications, with past cases involving the removal of CucoTV and CloudStream from their official Github repositories.
Stated in the DMCA notice to GitHub is Sky’s claim of VancedFlix transmitting Sky Italia content without permission.
The VancedFlix app allows users to watch movies and TV series for free. The app allegedly includes Sky Italia Srl’s TV series without proper licensing. Sky requested the repository’s removal due to unauthorized content transmission, leading to its takedown.
GitHub appears to have complied with the takedown and removed the app from its platform.
However, despite this action, a Google search shows that the application is still downloadable via the Google Play Store.
The official website of VancedFlix is still operational. However, the download button for the official application redirects users to the removed GitHub page.
The website features a “Disclaimer” asserting that it does not host, upload, or manage any content on its servers, presenting links in a user-friendly interface.
Sky disputed this claim and pursued the app’s removal citing copyright issues.
