Premier League Urges GoDaddy to Identify Streaming Pirates

Premier League Urges GoDaddy to Identify Streaming Pirates1

The Premier League is urging GoDaddy to uncover the identities behind more than two dozen pirate streaming domains.

You can find the full list of targeted streaming domains at the end of this article.

As the most-watched football league globally, the Premier League generates billions in revenue annually from broadcast rights sales.

Broadcasters secure these rights and recoup their investments through public subscription fees. However, some fans opt for free or cheaper options by turning to pirate streaming platforms for live match views.

In battling piracy, the Premier League has used legal tactics such as obtaining blocking orders across multiple countries and leading lawsuits resulting in jail time for some offenders.

Despite aiming to shut down pirate operations, achieving this remains a tough challenge due to operators of streaming sites taking steps to stay anonymous.

Information Request from GoDaddy

Targeting Domain Registrar

The Premier League’s latest move to unveil anonymity involves requesting a DMCA subpoena to push GoDaddy to reveal all info about the infringing domain operators it holds.

The identified domains, like live-kooora.com, 30.tv, live4.kooora-gooal.com, fctvlive.com, and soccertv4k.com, have varied traffic levels, some attracting millions of monthly visits.

Notorious Pirate Streaming Services

The request also aims at backend domains tied to pirate streaming services EVPad and SVI Cloud, known for unauthorized streaming in South East Asia.

EVPad, considered an “extremely sophisticated” pirate service, offers access to 1,700+ channels, including 75 for live sports broadcasts.

Identification of Operators

Through the subpoena, the Premier League seeks vital information to identify those behind these infringing platforms, including names, addresses, contact details, payment data, and more. A letter has also been sent to GoDaddy to request the removal or blocking of access to the infringing content directly.

Response from GoDaddy

Currently, many listed domains and services in the application are still live. GoDaddy typically needs a court order to take down domains, so this situation is expected.

Should the DMCA subpoena be granted, GoDaddy will have to provide the requested account holder information.

However, the effectiveness of the obtained data remains uncertain since many pirate sites use inaccurate registration details, and GoDaddy accepting cryptocurrency payments might complicate financial tracking.
