Versus Reviews recently conducted a study. It revealed that many people who have ditched cable are actually paying more for streaming. In fact, they are paying more than the average cable bill.
The study showed that in 33 states, consumers spent more on Streaming Apps each month than they would have on cable. Although the difference was usually under $5, there were four states where the average streaming bill was over $10 more expensive than cable.
This is a big deal because people often switch to streaming to save money. But this study reveals that’s not always the outcome. Many find themselves paying more for streaming than they did for a standard cable TV package.
There are likely several reasons for this. A primary factor is the sheer number of streaming services available.
Especially in the past couple of years, we’ve witnessed a surge in companies launching their own streaming platforms. This ongoing trend has brought us options like HBO Max, Peacock, and Disney+, among many others, offering on-demand and live content.
With fierce competition, lots of folks subscribe to multiple services to get all the shows and movies they want. The costs can really stack up, especially if you add live TV streaming services like Philo or fuboTV to the mix.
The good news is that there are ways to cut costs on streaming. Cord-cutters can opt for an ad-supported HBO Max plan. That lowers the monthly bill to $9.99, compared to $14.99 for the ad-free version.
Similarly, Paramount+ and Peacock offer lower-priced plans that include ads. And if you want live TV, you can explore apps that offer free content. Consider the Amazon News App on Firestick or Locast for local channels.
