Cord-cutters often opt for Free VPN Services to encrypt their connections and enhance online anonymity.

While Free VPN Services are a cost-effective option for online privacy, there are potential risks associated with using them.

Free VPN Providers typically generate revenue by selling user data to third-party entities.

This recent report by Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler highlights the dangers of using a free VPN Service like SuperVPN.

Currently, there are two apps named SuperVPN on both Google Play & the Apple App Store, each with over 100 million downloads.

One of these apps is identified as SuperVPN Pro, the paid version of the application with over 10 million downloads.

According to VPNMentor, the exposed records totaled 133 GB, which is a substantial amount of data.

The leaked data contained sensitive information, including user visited websites.

It is notable that the SuperVPN Support Page claims not to keep logs of user website visits.

SuperVPN claims not to log IP address interference, data traffic content, communication contents, accessed websites, or IP addresses.

Unfortunately, this statement appears to be false as the leaked records indicated otherwise, although the breach has been rectified.

Other exposed records included:

  • User Email Addresses
  • Original IP Addresses
  • Geolocation
  • Server Usage Records
  • Unique App User IDs and UUIDs
  • Device Information such as Model, Operating System, Connection Type, and VPN App Version
  • Refund Requests from Pro Version Users (or involuntarily charged users)

Overall, the volume of data exposed in this breach poses significant concerns for anyone who has used the application.
