A popular Free VPN Provider, Bean VPN, has experienced a data leak impacting over 25 million user records. This incident has raised concerns about the security of free VPN services.
As reported by TechRadar, the breach exposed personal data for many subscribers. Bean VPN might be smaller in terms of overall popularity, but it still boasts over 50,000 downloads on the Google Play Store alone.

Cybernews, a cybersecurity research firm, uncovered the Bean VPN data breach during a standard security check. The breach exposed sensitive user data, including device IDs, Play Service IDs, IP addresses, and connection timestamps.
The primary purpose of using a VPN is to maintain online anonymity and safeguard your IP address, a function that Bean VPN clearly failed to uphold. This raises serious questions about its ability to protect user privacy.
Cybernews security researcher Aras Nazarovas highlighted the implications of the breach:
This database leak could be exploited to reveal the identities of Bean VPN users. Their approximate locations could be determined by cross-referencing the data with geo-IP databases. The Play Service ID could potentially be used to uncover the email address linked to the user’s device.
Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. Several other Free VPN Providers have faced similar issues in the past, failing to adequately protect their user’s sensitive information. This highlights a recurring pattern of security vulnerabilities in the free VPN market.

TROYPOINT consistently advises against using Free VPNs. This Bean VPN incident serves as a prime illustration of why caution is warranted when choosing a VPN provider..
Despite claiming they don’t retain user data or logs, Bean’s claims have been proven false. The data breach revealed numerous user records, directly contradicting their no-log policy.
When selecting a VPN Service, prioritize reputable paid services with verifiable no-log and data retention policies. This ensures the service provider is committed to protecting your data.
IPVanish is a provider known for its strict no-logs policy. They never store user logs or data, ensuring your information remains consistently safe and secure.
