Authorities in India report that the developer behind the well-known ThopTV app has been arrested. ThopTV gained popularity as a way to stream live TV on jailbroken Firesticks.
According to police, the alleged owner and developer of the ThopTV app, Satish Venkateshwarlu, is now in custody.
The investigation into ThopTV started after Star India filed a case against them. It seems that Star India had some issues with the app.
Star India’s statement on the matter was pretty clear:
“ThopTV is a rogue app. It’s providing illegal access to movies, shows, and live sports on TV. And they’re doing it without permission from the copyright holders.”
Star Media isn’t alone in this. The police mentioned that Viacom18 Media and other broadcast networks had also complained about ThopTV in the past.
