Dear TROYPOINT Friends,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you and your loved ones have a fantastic day and a great weekend.
I’d really appreciate it if you could take a moment to read this entire post. I have a small request for you at the end – just a simple click.
On Wednesday, February 2nd, YouTube notified us that our TROYPOINT channel had been permanently suspended. It was unfortunate, as we had over 260,000 subscribers before it was taken down.
What Happened?
YouTube has Community Guidelines. If they believe your video doesn’t meet them, they issue a strike against your account.
When you receive a strike, you can appeal it. But if your channel gets three strikes, it’s permanently suspended.
It’s important to clarify something before we continue. I’ve never shown examples of copyrighted movies or TV shows in my videos. I’ve only demonstrated streaming content that’s in the public domain, like Night of the Living Dead, for instance.
Back in early January, we received a “strike” on an old Exodus Kodi video. The reason given was “Harmful or Dangerous Content”.
I appealed the strike, explaining that the content didn’t fit their definition of harmful or dangerous. I even pointed out that thousands of other YouTube videos cover the same techniques. We questioned why we were being singled out.
A week later, we got another strike, this time on our Exodus Redux Kodi video. It was also labeled as “Harmful or Dangerous Content”. Naturally, I submitted another appeal.
To be safe, I unlisted all my Kodi addon and build videos to avoid a third strike. However, it seems I overlooked an old one from 2018.
On Tuesday, we received the dreaded email. Our account had a third strike, for a Kodi Addon video from early 2018 – the one I missed. I admit, I should have been more thorough in reviewing the videos. But I suspect they would have found another reason to remove us anyway.
The email gave me a chance to appeal the account termination. I submitted an appeal through their form, explaining that I never got any updates on my two previous appeals. I questioned how they could terminate my account without even responding to the earlier appeals.
About twenty minutes later, I received what seemed like an automated reply. It’s pretty funny, considering I’ve never gotten a response from Google in just 20 minutes!
Hello,
Thank you for your account suspension appeal. We have decided to keep your account suspended based on our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. You can visit http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines for more information.
Sincerely,
The YouTube Team
Our YouTube channel has played a crucial role in building the TROYPOINT brand over the past six years. Many of you discovered us through a video on our YouTube channel. It’s been a valuable platform for us.
We Need Your Help
I’ve started a new TROYPOINT YouTube channel. I’m currently re-uploading our popular videos, which will take some time.
Going forward, the channel will still focus on cord-cutting. But I’ll do it in a way that hopefully avoids future issues with YouTube’s policies.
I’d be incredibly grateful if you could click the link below and subscribe to our new channel. Your free subscription lets me know that you want me to keep making these videos.
Your support truly means a lot to me.
