UK Teen Uses Amazon Firestick to Hack Grand Theft Auto VI
Many are familiar with the Amazon Firestick’s abilities for streaming Movies, TV Shows, and Live TV.
Users can now install applications that are not found in the Amazon App Store for unrestricted streaming access and more using itsjailbreaking capabilities.
It appears that a recent event showcased that these devices have more to offer, as a UK teen demonstrated.
18-year-old Arion Kurtaj, part of the group Lapsus$, was found guilty of hacking Rockstar Games Inc., a renowned video game company, along with a 17-year-old partner.
Kurtaj, known for his hacks on corporations like NVIDIA and Microsoft, was under police surveillance in a hotel room due to threats but continued his hacking activities, targeting Rockstar Games and the awaited Grand Theft Auto VI using only an Amazon Firestick, cell phone, mouse, and keyboard.
Using his skills, Kurtaj penetrated Rockstar’s online portal, stealing gameplay clips and claiming to have downloaded all GTA VI data, even alerting employees on Slack and threatening to release source code if not contacted.
If Rockstar does not contact me on Telegram within 24 hours, I will start releasing the source code…
The exact method of attack is uncertain, but Kurtaj likely utilized a cloud service with the Firestick to breach Rockstar’s database, leaking 90 gameplay clips under the username “TeaPotUberHacker”.
City of London Police reportedly caught him in the act, leading to his re-arrest along with his accomplice, awaiting sentencing.
