A US court recently made a decision impacting all US Internet Service Providers. They’ll be required to block access to three pirate streaming sites.

These websites include:

  • Isreali-tv.com
  • Isreal.tv
  • Sdarot.tv

This ruling follows multiple film companies joining together. They filed copyright infringement lawsuits against the mentioned websites.

The lawsuits claimed that these sites were illegally broadcasting streams. These streams featured copyrighted content, and they did so without permission.

The movie companies sought a significant amount in damages. They demanded $150,000 for each copyrighted film that was streamed illegally. Additionally, they aimed to prevent any future unauthorized streaming of their content.

The US Court sided with the plaintiffs. Default judgments were granted in all three cases. The website operators were ordered to pay $7.65 million in damages each.

However, the financial penalties weren’t the only consequences the defendants faced in this legal battle.

The operators were also prohibited from running these pirate websites and any others in the future.

The court’s decision also included a significant requirement. This requirement, which we haven’t encountered before, was directed at entities other than the streaming site owners. It involves a court order for US ISPs to block their users from accessing these domains.

All ISPs…and any other ISPs providing services in the United States shall block access to the Website at any domain address known today…or to be used in the future by the Defendants…by any technological means available on the ISPs’ systems.

This effectively means that every US Internet Service Provider must take action. They have to prevent all their internet users from accessing the websites named in the lawsuit.

There have been somewhat similar situations before. However, this specific type of court order, impacting ISPs in this way, is a first in the United States.

This court ruling for ISPs is new territory, something we haven’t seen before. As a result, it’s difficult to predict exactly what the future holds.

It remains to be seen whether Internet Service Providers will choose to challenge this ruling. Their response is still uncertain.

However, it’s crucial to recognize the significance of this judgment and its potential implications. It could set a precedent for future cases.

The implementation of site blocking for these particular websites creates a possibility. Other websites engaged in similar activities might face the same consequences down the line.

Users always have options, though. They can utilize tools like a VPN to change their IP Addresses. By connecting to a server in a different country, they can access websites and content that may be blocked in their own region.

Using a VPN also provides the benefit of encryption. This enhances your online security and privacy by making your internet traffic anonymous.
