The VPN detection firm GeoComply has created new software. It aims to prevent VPN users from accessing streaming platforms.

This affects widely-used services. These include Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and others.

We are curious about your thoughts on GeoComply’s latest software. It’s designed to block VPN users, so share your opinions in the comments below!

As TorrentFreak reported, GeoComply has introduced GeoGuard. It’s a VPN detection tool that various streaming services and apps can utilize.

Many providers, such as Netflix and Peacock, already employ VPN blocking tools. These are meant to stop you from viewing content while using a VPN.

However, VPN providers like Surfshark have found ways to bypass these blocks. They use various methods and strategies.

One common approach is using residential IP addresses as proxies. This helps to mask VPN usage.

While many streaming services are aware of this workaround, it remains challenging to prevent. This is where GeoComply believes GeoGuard can be beneficial. It boasts new technology to identify and block residential IP addresses used as proxies.

In a press release, the company explains how GeoGuard can “combat the threat from hijacked residential IP addresses”. It claims that “pirate viewers” are the source of the threat.

The release also clarifies how free VPN service users unknowingly allow access to their assigned IP addresses. It explains the following:

Free VPN providers generate revenue by selling hijacked residential IP addresses. Usually, they sell to providers of “undetectable” premium VPN services, which in turn offer their subscribers location spoofing using the hijacked addresses.

TROYPOINT consistently advises against free VPNs. Instead, choose a reliable, paid provider that won’t sell your information.

GeoGuard by GeoComply aims to detect these “hijacked” IP addresses. It then blocks them from accessing various streaming services.

This empowers services like Netflix to restrict access to a large number of free VPN companies using this tactic.

This presents another reason to avoid free VPNs. They often don’t function as you expect.
