Original Article – 7/20/2022:
Yet another VPN Provider is facing scrutiny. This comes after several filmmakers filed a lawsuit against them. The lawsuit was filed in a Virginia Federal Court.
A complaint has been lodged against the well-known VPN Provider VeePN. The complaint alleges copyright and trademark infringement.

As initially reported by TorrentFreak, various filmmakers have joined forces. They have partnered with the Hawaiian Law Firm 42 Ventures, with their aim set on VeePN.
The plaintiffs claim that VeePN is promoting the use of Popcorn Time APK. Notably, 42 Ventures holds the trademark for Popcorn Time.
42 Ventures also possesses the trademark logo for a well-known platform. The platform in question is the torrent site YTS.mx, which features VeePN advertisements.
The filmmakers approached the court with a request. They sought a temporary restraining order to freeze the company’s assets.
The court granted this request, but the lawsuit remains ongoing.
VeePN has not yet responded to these allegations. It’s probable that they’ll be required to address them soon.
This is because the court’s restraining order has implications for VeePN’s finances. It mandates that PayPal and AliPay freeze VeePN’s funds for the duration of the lawsuit.
The order also stipulates that VeePN must cease promoting itself in a specific way. They are to stop advertising as a Popcorn Time VPN with immediate effect.
It appears that VeePN has complied with this order. The Popcorn Time page, previously found on their website, is no longer accessible.
Judge Anthony Trenga made observations about the allegations against VeePN. Here’s what he noted:
The Copyright Plaintiffs are likely to be successful in their contributory infringement claim. This is because they’ve demonstrated that VeePN actively promotes and distributes Popcorn Time VPN.
Furthermore, Defendant VeePN promotes itself as ‘Popcorn Time VPN’ on its website. At https://veepn.com/blog/popcorn-time-vpn, they explicitly state: ‘Downloading and sharing files via torrent is against copyright law. This means you could face legal consequences, which is why you need a Popcorn Time VPN.’

This isn’t an isolated incident of a VPN Company facing scrutiny. It’s not the first time a company has been targeted for promoting the streaming app Popcorn Time.
